Program Introduction

History of chemistry department is almost as old as the history of Govt. M.A.O. College Lahore (old name). It was started to meet the educational needs of Muslims. At the start it offered both F.Sc in both Pre-Medical and Pre-Engineering disciplines and later on it expanded its range to B.Sc.

BS (IV Year) Program in Chemistry was started in 2010 under the direction of Higher Education Department, Govt. of Punjab (B.Sc two year program was abandoned in 2010) under the chairmanship of Professor Muhammad Akbar. BS (IV Year) Program in Chemistry of Govt. M.A.O. College is one of the most successful programs among the affiliated colleges of The University of the Punjab. Uptill now two batches 2010-2014 and 2011-2015 have successfully completed their degrees and are working in the field of industry, teaching, and research. Last year our student secured first position in the entry test of MS (Chemistry) in The University of the Punjab. I addition number of our students are studying MS in top ranked universities of Lahore (Punjab). At present department offers specialization in Analytical and Applied Chemistry but in future this will be expanded to organic and Biochemistry also. Our Laboratories are equipped with modern instruments like modern Ultraviolet-Visible spectrophotometer, flame photometer, conductometers, potentiometers, pH meters, polarimeters, etc, and we are working for their further up gradation with the assistance from Govt. of Punjab and Non Governmental Organizations. Being a public sector college Govt. M.A.O. College provides best teaching facility with very low and affordable fee structure.

We have three Ph.D and six M.Phill teachers and few of them are at the verge of completion of their Ph.D degrees. Our staff members have number of international publications and are actively involved in research.
